Garut Regency, West Java, is well-known as an area producing silk thread in Indonesia. These good-quality silk threads are used as raw materials for making Garut silk weaving which has been Garut ancient culture since a long time ago.

The characteristic of Garut silk weaving is its bright color with geometric motifs in the form of large flowers. One of the artisans who has successfully expanded the Garut silk weaving industry is Isam Samsudin.

Isam Samsudin has been in the business since 2008. Thanks to him, Garut’s signature silk ikat fabrics have attracted the attention of many people, including the international community. Isam has brought Garut silk-woven across the archipelago, even abroad through exhibitions. For example, in the United States of America, Hong Kong, Italy, Thailand, and Malaysia.

What’s so special about Isam’s Garut silk ikat? Partly because the process of making the cloth is still handmade using a nonmachine loom (ATBM) by local craftsmen. This way, the woven fabrics become more exclusive with assured quality. The craftsmen can produce one to two meters of woven fabric every day.

With the help of 40 employees, Isam can produce an average of more than 2,300 meters of fabric every month. Not only plain fabrics, but Isam also produced colored silk fabrics and batik. There are also shirts and others. This makes Isam products more varied, and flexible for buyer.
