Eager to Success

The potential to expand the handicraft business, especially in Indonesia, is always wide open as long as we want to catch opportunities and try to live them. That’s a little illustration of what the couple from Maos, Cilacap, Central Java, Tonik Sudarmaji and Euis Rohaini proved.

Amid the downturn in their business in 2005, the couple tried not to give up. Failing to run the convection business due to being deceived by their business partners, Tonik and Euis looked at other businesses recommended by the local Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag).

At the beginning of their revival, Tonik and Euis tried to create Cilacap batik, which is unique and has been existence for a long time. Their batik creation is named Raja Mas. After completing their task for the district government’s, Raja Mas batik traveled the world. In 2009, Raja Mas batik has participated in exhibitions in various countries. Starting from countries in Asia, Turkey, Germany, Spain, England, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Italy, to Russia.

Seeing that foreign markets were good for developing handicraft businesses, Tonik and Euis diversified their business. While selling batik, they also began to see the potential of woven crafts as a new product. Raja Serayu was born. The handicraft products offered are varied, combining woven bamboo with textile materials and typical Cilacap batik.

At their place of business, Tonik and Euis are assisted by about 20 employees. But for partners, there are hundreds, especially for handicrafts. Raja Mas and Raja Serayu chose to develop social entrepreneurship so that the small businesses of their partners can rise togeth
